Day 12: Fri 5 Sep - Bangkok

Had a sleep-in today!  We all met for breakfast at 7:30am and then said goodbye to Trudi.  Sylvain, Jane and I then exchanged photos as we do every year and then Sylvain and I said goodbye to Jane as she was leaving earlier than us.

Sylvain and I visited the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha.  We took a taxi and were just going to have a wander on our own when we were approached by a guide with an offer that was quite reasonable. So, for the next hour, we followed and “oohed” and “aahed” at the right places.  Unfortunately, photography was not allowed inside some of the most interesting places.

Instead of going directly back to the hotel we had the taxi drop us at our BTS station and we walked the short distance to Maccas for lunch.  My first and only Thai Maccas and it was just the same as everywhere else in the world – funny that?!

I made my way back to the hotel whilst Sylvain went to check on the progress of his shirts he was having made.  As he had an Embassy function to attend this evening, I did my own thing.  I ordered a pizza to go, bought some beers from the corner store and sat in my room and played on the computer and had dinner. Despite the sleep-in this morning, lights were out by 10pm.
