Day 4: Thu 28 Aug - Shanghai to Bangkok

We got to have a sleep in!  We were being picked up at 8:30am so had breakfast at 7:30am.

After being picked-up on time we were taken on a tour of the pharmacy school and then the pharmacy department of the first affiliated hospital, both of the Second Military Medical University (SMMU).

After the comprehensive tour we were taken back to the hotel where Zheng-yu had arranged a late check-out.   I had time to have a shower, pack the bags and be back downstairs by 1pm. It was then off to lunch which again was yummy, then to the airport.  We made it with plenty of time to spare.  I was the only one on a different flight but that was ok as I was able to do my own thing.  However, I discovered that a QANTAS Club member card does not get you into QANTAS affiliated lounges, so I ended up paying the equivalent of AUD25 and was there with Sylvain and Richard.  I had time for a few beers and then it was time to board.  When I made it to the gate, I discovered they had changed the departure gate so raced to find the new one only to discover they were not yet boarding.  We boarded about 20 minutes late and then the captain announced we had at least another hour to wait!! WT???  With nowhere to go and nothing else to do, I started watching a movie and chilled out.  I knew I had 2 hours transit in Hong Kong, so as long as we were only delayed an hour, that was ok.  We eventually took off just over 90 minutes late but made up about 35 so there was no panic.

After landing in Hong Kong, I found my way through the airport to the correct departure gate with about 30 mins to spare.  Once there I found a free internet terminal and checked emails then it was time to board.  It was not a very full flight so had 2 seats (window and aisle) for me. I did some work on the laptop - started writing up the SMMU visit, then had some dinner with a beer and a little nap then it was time to land.  And then the fun started!

Immigration and customs were no problem, but finding my ride was.  We eventually found each other and off we went.  The trip took about 50 minutes, and I arrived at Windsor Suites Hotel about 2am!!  Jane had left me a message saying we were meeting for breakfast at 7:30am, so I unpacked a few things, showered and was lights out by 3am.
